  • Quickly check status of a claim

The OEBAC Team is still experiencing a large volume of calls. The top phone requests by far at this point are from members asking about the status of a claim. The OEBAC Team can help with this, but if you want to take a short cut, just look to the OEBAC Mobile App and OEBAC Online. See below for steps. NOTE: Due to the amount of paper claims transferred from Global Benefits, OEBAC is dealing with a backlog. The team is working hard to resolve, but any help from members and any reduction in the amount of calls would be a great help. Try these easy steps to check the status of a claim on your own: OEBAC Mobile App Log into the OEBAC Mobile App To see your history, tap the Claims button at the bottom of the screen (Figure 1) Find the claim you would like the status for, the symbol on the right of the screen will tell you the status. If you want more information, tap on that claim (Figure 2) The status will be listed in the top part of the screen and additional information on the claim will be listed below (Figure 3) OEBAC Online Log on to iuoelocal793.org/members Click on the OEBAC ONLINE button Click the Claims tab (located under your name on the top left) Your Claims history will be listed on the page with a status update (Figure 4) If you have additional questions around the status of a claim and need to contact OEBAC, be sure to have your Certificate # on your benefits card and the claim number ready to give to the Customer Service Rep. You can reach the OEBAC Team at info@OEBAC.org or by calling 1-844-793-1919 from Monday to Friday (8:30 AM and 10 AM).

  • Tips to speed payment of claims

The OEBAC Team is working through the backlog of claims due to the changeover from Global Benefits. The fastest methods of having a claim paid are by using the OEBAC Mobile App and OEBAC Online; if you select the Enter Claim Details option, your claim is paid almost immediately in most cases (see image below). The claims that take the most time to process are ones received through the mail that have a receipt / invoice, but do not have a proper claim form. An OEBAC Customer Service Representative (CSR) cannot process a claim without a form and must contact the member in order to resolve. The majority of these claims have to be returned to the member. This takes time and slows both the payment process for the original claim, but it also keeps the CSR from processing something else. If you mail in your claim, here are some helpful tips to get your claim paid as quickly as possible: Make sure all information is easy to read. Ensure you have the correct form, filled out in full included when you send in your claim via mail or email. Claim forms can be found at oebac.org/forms or you can request one by contacting your Area Office. The form must be signed by the member and Certificate # must be included. Do not use old Global Benefits claim forms. Consider submitting Health and Welfare claims using OEBAC Online or the OEBAC Mobile App, these are paid quickly. Ensure OEBAC has your Electronic Funded Transfer (EFT) information for direct deposit into your account. For video tutorials on how to submit claims and receive payments quicker, please visit the Media page. If you have any questions, please email info@OEBAC.org. The OEBAC Team

  • ANNOUNCING THE TRANSITION DATES FOR OUR MOVE TO SELF-ADMINISTRATION

We are transitioning to a self-administration model for the IUOE Local 793 Life and Health Benefits Plan, Group Legal Plan and Pension Plan. With this move, the day-to-day administration responsibilities for these plans will be handled by the newly established Operating Engineers Benefits Administration Corporation (OEBAC), instead of by Global Benefits. This update provides some important information on the move and the timeline. Key Dates The transition will occur in several waves. It starts this Fall with the Life and Health Benefits Plan and Group Legal Plan. The final wave will be the Pension Plan early next year (Jan. 1, 2020). Remember, this is an administrative change only. Your health benefits, pension and legal plan are not changing. It’s all about you! You’ll benefit from an improved member experience — like the convenience of being able to submit your benefits claims online or through a mobile app, and a simple, easy-to-use service. Plus, your new OEBAC Benefits Card will be accepted at most dental offices as well as all major drugstores. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Introduction to OEBAC We’ll be printing a special issue of 793 Operator to introduce you to OEBAC (your new plan administrator), and provide important information. Make sure to read it carefully and keep it handy, so you know what to expect. Check the mail Shortly after receiving 793 Operator, you’ll receive instructions in the mail with details on how to verify your personal information on file. Closer to your transition date, you will receive your new OEBAC Benefits Card, for drug and dental purposes. Follow the instructions to help ensure a smooth transition. Tax slips Because this is a transition year, you will receive two T4As for your benefits: one for Jan. 1, 2019 up to your transition date (issued by Global Benefits), and one for the rest of the calendar year (issued by OEBAC). This applies for any tax slips you may receive for life insurance premiums, legal benefits premiums, union dues, contributions related to welfare overage hours, etc. All these documents will be posted on iuoelocal793.org.
