LOCAL 793's SUPPLEMENTAL UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT (SUB) PLAN

The Local 793 SUB Plan is a separate Trust Fund designed to provide Employment Insurance (EI) top-up benefits to members for a maximum of six weeks (in a calendar year).

The top-up benefit will be up to $250 per week, in addition to any EI benefits the member receives from Service Canada. The maximum SUB Plan top-up benefit is $1,500 per calendar year.

A registered SUB Plan with the federal government will ensure the top-up benefit of up to $250 per week does not reduce members’ EI benefits (no claw back) and the top-up benefit is not subject to EI contributions or CPP contributions.

NOTE: To receive benefits under the Local 793 SUB Plan, you need to file your claim with OEBAC WITHIN EIGHT WEEKS OF RECEIVING EI.

Am I eligible?

A member will be eligible if:

  • Your employer(s) remits to the Local 793 SUB Plan; and

  • You have at least 700 hours remitted on your behalf; and

  • Scroll down to “RELIEF GRANT AND SUB PLAN” and click “APPLY HERE”

The Local 793 SUB Plan pays eligible members a maximum of $250 per week. You can receive benefits from our SUB Plan for a maximum of six weeks each calendar year.

REMINDER: You must have worked a minimum of 700 hours in the last 12 months prior to your claim to be eligible.

When is my top-up benefit paid?

Local 793 SUB Plan benefits are paid every week. Partial payments will be made for partial weeks.

SUB Plan benefits are not paid for the first week of each EI benefit claim period (i.e. waiting period).

NOTE: Local 793 SUB Plan benefits are paid in addition to your EI benefits. Your SUB Plan benefits will not affect the amount of your EI benefits.

Is the top-up benefit taxable?

SUB Plan benefits are taxable income. This means that you must declare any Local 793 SUB Plan benefits you receive as income. When filing your income tax return, be sure to attach the T4A slip you receive from the Local 793 SUB Plan.
