Questions and Answers for members currently in receipt of regular Employment Insurance benefits on:

•  Reporting the COVID-19 Local 793 Emergency Relief Grant (the “Relief Grant”) to Service Canada;   and 

• what to do if your EI regular benefits are stopped and/or clawed back. 

 

When reporting the Relief Grant to Service Canada provide the following information: 
 

• IUOE Local 793 established the COVID-19 Local 793 Emergency Relief Grant benefit of $250 per week to assist union members and their families during the COVID-19 crisis. 
   

• The payment comes from the IUOE Local 793 Life and Health Benefits trust. 
   

• The benefit is a “relief grant” as described under section 35(7)(c) of the Employment Insurance Regulations and as such does not reduce EI entitlements
